Blog Mistakes You Need to Avoid

blogging mistakes to avoid

Many bloggers get frustrated by the lack of traffic to their sites that is caused by nothing other than simple blog mistakes. Most times we think that blogging is just sitting down to write anything that comes to the top of our minds yet there is more to it than just that. Below are some common blogging mistakes that drive the traffic away from your site. However, what are blog mistakes?  You may ask.

Most Common Blogging Mistakes

These are mistakes that are found on blogs that reduce the efficiency of a blog to its audience. One very common mistake found in ailing blogs, is the way in which the articles are written. The authors seem to be writing for themselves rather than the readers. By that I mean that the articles included personal jokes, self centered ideologies and worst of all they were full of I was and I did, complete turn offs!
Another bad blogging practice is inconsistency. Readers love to see new content whenever they visit a site. This does not necessarily mean that you blog every few hours or daily, it means that if you blog twice a week on Monday and Wednesday, do it consistently. It is argued that since content is king, then the more content on a site, the more the traffic. This is true but only in circumstances where the content trickles in consistently and makes sense to the readers. Writing a lot of bad content does not help get more traffic into your site rather; writing quality content is a sure way to keep your readers interested. The beauty of any article should be well captured by the headline or title it holds. Readers look to the title given to an article before venturing to the rest of the content. Therefore, good content with a bad title and first paragraph never gets read and chases away potential traffic.
How to avoid blog mistakes

The first step to blogging is to define who your audience is. Once you know who they are, analyze and understand their likes, tastes and preferences. Knowing your audience will help you package your content to suit them and not yourself. Pick a niche that you are conversant with. This prevents you from the mistake of writing about too many topics and subjects and losing your reader in the process. It also helps to guide your audience through the thought process because you are the expert. Create a blogging schedule and fit it in your usual timetable.  Many bloggers are not full time bloggers but have to work elsewhere and blog as a hobby. Therefore, the issue of inconsistency arises and sends your usual readers looking for other up to date blogs.
Avoid talking endlessly about yourself! It does not make sense to put a blog that is open to the public yet it revolves completely around you, your cat, your kids or just you. A good blog should address the issues affecting your target audience. Any blogger who can get rid of any of the above blog mistakes will be well on their way to web success!
