Online is becoming the “it” thing nowadays. You can already put online in every activity you do nowadays such as online purchase, online gaming, online chatting, online marketing and so many more. The internet even made educational communities possible. Everyone in the world can use the internet with just a device capable of connecting to the internet like a laptop or tablet so it is even faster and easier to learn online than going to the library.
What are Online Educational Communities?

This type of community is a group of people who share the common interest of educating or learning people through the use of internet resources and methods. This is almost the same with your school clubs and organizations but only done online. An example of a platform where one can create an educational community is Facebook.
Building a Community in Facebook

This process is fairly an easy task to make considering the wide number of techniques, tools and applications that can be used in the process. Creating a Facebook education community can be done in various ways: groups, pages and discussions.
• Facebook Pages
– this is a type of profile which can be created by anyone in the sole purpose of creating a place for people to gather for a certain matter or subject. Professors or students can use this Facebook feature to create a page where they can share information, school activities, educational tools or materials and many more. A Facebook page can be accessed by anyone who will “Like” the page making it a public domain.
• Facebook Groups
– this is similar with a Facebook page, however, it is more like a “controlled” version. Only the group administrator can allow people to join the group. Non-members can send request to the admin to gain access to the group. Posts, comments and other activities are only accessible to group members only. This is a good option in creating an education community.
• Facebook Discussions
– anyone with a Facebook profile can already create a discussion through their own “walls.” Anyone who sees the discussion post can join in and share their comments. This is great for professors and educators when asking solutions from students or when asking for suggestions.
Before making all of this, it is important that people create their own profiles to use. Then a group or page admin can send messages or notifications to people to access or join the page or groups.
Once the group, page or discussion is set, people can already share ideas, lessons, problems, activities, suggestions and many other educational elements. It is important the admins and page owners should be able to maintain and manage the group and page in case of unwanted events like virus attacks which are rampant nowadays.
Possibilities are immeasurable when it comes to the internet. This makes a Facebook education community a good way to start on improving the quality of education in the world of digital innovations.
