Technology impacts education in various ways. These can be divided into three broad impacts. The first is the impact of technology is on the education process. Technology has resulted in a more student focused education process. Computer assisted programs enable the students to have more time dedicated to them in the process of acquiring education. They are also able to get education at their own pace and in the way that best matches their personalities.
Students are also more involved in their education, thanks to technology. They are able to control their own learning process. This leads to students being able to attempt harder and more complex tasks when they are ready for them. This may be at different times. With the absence of technology all students were presented with such tasks at the same time. Furthermore, this builds the confidence of the student as they are able to steer their own education. Previously, students would loose their confidence when compared with the progress of other, more advanced, students.
Technology also impacts on education practices. The main way in which it does this is through the student motivation. Technology has brought about better models and simulations that make the education practices more fascinating and interesting to the students. This makes more students like the idea of education. This has also brought about variations of talents in students. They are able to choose the aspects of study that interest them and they have fun pursuing them.
Another practice that technology has impacted on is the involvement of family. Technology has enabled more family involvement in education practices. In the case of especially younger students, this enables the family to motivate them. They are able to be guided and assisted by the family. Younger students will usually respond better to their families than they would to other teaching figures. Therefore, the student’s morale in relation to education is heightened.
Finally, education has also impacted on the effectiveness of education. The main contributions of technology would be in relation to access and functionality. Technology has enabled the reach of education to be far and wide. Gadgets such as computers and the internet enable education from one place to be broadcast worldwide. A lecture that takes place in one part of the world can be accessed by several other people streaming from that recording globally. This results in the global community acquiring same knowledge and thus global development.
When it comes to functionality; technology has helped shape what path of education to be taken with regard to future careers. Education is able to address the important aspects and needs in the real world. Previously, education was rather vague and was not relevant to the real world. However, technology has enabled education to be directly coherent with life. For instance, there are games that depict professionals and students can be educated on details of their future careers; therefore, making better education choices.
